This tour is a full immersion into some of the most famous Medieval Hill Towns of Tuscany. Meet guide and driver at your hotel in Florence. Leave Florence at 9.30 p.m. and drive south for about thirty minutes to San Gimignano. After a walk through this beautiful hill town to explore some of its churches and quaint side streets , there will be free time for shopping and an optional light lunch. We’ll then continue south to the lesser known hill town of Colle Val D’Elsa, a city which dates back to the Middle Ages built on two levels. We’ll walk the cobble-stone streets of Upper Colle and then proceed on to the fortress city of Monteriggioni. Dante was so impressed with the shape of this city that he used it as a metaphor for one of the rings of the inferno ; he described it as a” ringed shaped citadel whose circling ramparts are crowned with towers.” The cypress lined roads dot this beautiful landscape , just as if we were inside one of the famous paintings of the Renaissance masters. We’ll then continue on to the beautiful city of Lucca, whose roman origins can be seen in the beautiful arena square, once capital under the Longobards, this city is famous for its distinctive Romanesque architecture, and last but not least, Lucca's 16th century walls provide a wonderful view of the city, not to mention a nice walk. You'll have free time in the city for shopping.
