Rialto: in this part of the city various magistratures and the institutions which administrated the republic’s treasury and commerce, wholesale and retail traders, private and public banking, marine and insurances agencies and warehouses used by merchants were grouped.
San Marco with its Byzantine basilica, gothic palace and classical and Renaissance library is a microcosm of different styles, a political, religious and finacial center.

AFTERNOON - Gondola tour of the Canal-Grande
The Canalazzo, as the Venetians call it, two and half miles long has an unbroken sequence of palaces and churches on either side. The main facades of all these buildings overlook the water, and the best way to see them is from a gondola, it is an openair stage set for Venice’s great regattas and festivals.

Lunch is usually a quick stop given the limited time you have available, unless you wish to stop at a restaurant for a nice meal and taste of local cuisine.
